A recent study conducted by the American Sociological Association suggested that women are more likely than men to initiate a breakup or divorce.

In the study, 2,262 adults were surveyed regarding their relationships. The study found that after six years 371 of the participants had either broken up or divorced. With divorce, women initiated the case 69% of the time. The authors of the study opined that women started the divorce process because they are more sensitive to relationship difficulties than men.

The first party to file for divorce gains a big advantage, while the other party starts the process behind the 8-ball. Whether they want the divorce or not, men need to protect themselves accordingly and speak to a divorce attorney early on when their relationship appears to be headed south. If not, they could be playing catch-up for the rest of the case.
